ChesterGates Referral Hospital, is the culmination of our dream to establish a state of the art referral and diagnostic imaging centre. Geoff Skerritt lectured neuro-anatomy to veterinary students for over 20 years before going into private practice. Firm in the belief that access to veterinary MRI was vital to neurology, we were instrumental in establishing the first veterinary dedicated mobile MRI service in the world in 1997.

With the need for veterinary MRI to enhance neurology ever growing, we decided to move away from the mobiles and establish a fixed veterinary MRI centre at ChesterGates. The first MRI scanner was installed 2004 and in 2007 we took delivery of the first Vet MR Grande scanner in the UK. This allows us the offer a 24/7 veterinary MRI and neurology referral service.

As part of our commitment to offering veterinary care of the highest possible standard we have expanded to become a multidiscipline referral centre. Referrals are currently accepted in anaesthesia, critical care, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, feline medicine, hearing assessment, internal medicine, veterinary MRI, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, spinal surgery, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy.  

The hospital is staffed throughout the day and night by veterinary surgeons and nurses, and emergencies are accepted out of hours.

However, it is thanks to the care and dedication of the truly superb team at ChesterGates that we are able to offer the best possible level of care to our patients.

At ChesterGates we are concerned with preventive medicine too. As a result we offer a number of screening tests for various health problems including deafness and syringomyelia, which are of help to breeders and committed pet owners as well as to veterinary surgeons in practice.
